Supporting European Education on Sustainable Critical Materials
SusCritMOOC, the succession project of SusCritMat was launched in April 2020 with the aim of developing a massive open online course (MOOC) to educate PhD and master students as well as professionals to cover a series of important aspects regarding CRMs: consumption of natural resources, raw materials limitation, economic and political conditions that influence supply security, air and water pollution, recycling, the economic impact on European industry, and the need of a transition towards a Circular Economy. The MOOC shall not only be a stand-alone offer but also combine the virtual contents with a group learning experience and current cases. In order to achieve this, a summer and a winter school are planned which will also contain train-the-trainer elements to allow other educators to offer the course or parts of it, use the offered teaching materials, and develop own contents on cases where appropriate. For these occasions, the MOOC will be re-run, so that there are several editions with teachers and online guides available, and a broader audience reached.
The MOOC will build on the materials established in SusCritMat, the curriculum developed in this project, as well as on the experience of the partners (especially University of Leiden and TU Delft) with MOOCs and other innovative and/or virtual learning formats. Triggered by the current global health crisis, new aspects related to current global events will be worked into the programme. The course is planned to be available by beginning of 2021.
SusCritMOOC is funded by EIT Raw Materials.
